Jazz Yukon: Learn to Swing Jam and the Basics of Improvisation Workshop Series

Learn to Swing Jam and the basics of improvisation workshop series, Feb 7 – 9
Learn to Swing Jam with swing, jazz, Broadway, and everything music performer, composer, touring and recording Artist, and workshop clinician, the one and only Grant Simpson.
All levels welcome. All instruments welcome.
The music and preliminary videos are available upon registration.
Charts are provided in three keys for C, Bb or Eb instruments
The recommended workshop fee is $20, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. A lower amount is welcome with no questions asked. Offers over $20 will help offset the costs for other participants or go toward future workshops opportunities in our community. Special offer – take two workshops for $35.

FRIDAY, FEB 7 FROM 1:00 – 2:30 PM (1.5 hours)
Swing Jam – Beginner for 8-10 participants
An introduction to playing swing music together as a group. We will cover basic chords and how to play them and the strumming patterns that go with them.
Songs for the workshop: Sweet Sue Just You, Avalon, Blues in C
SATURDAY, FEB 8 FROM 1:00 – 2:30 PM (1.5 hours)
Swing Jam – Beginner + for 8-10 participants
We will carry on from the work in the beginner class with a deeper look at basic improvising concepts that you can do instantly. This is your first step into learning how to improvise on songs.
Songs for the workshop: Oh Lady Be Good, Bill Bailey, Blues in G
SUNDAY, FEB 9 FROM 1:00 – 2:30 PM (1.5 hours)
Swing Jam – Beginner ++ for 8-10 participants
This will be a little deeper look into the possibilities of improvisation on more complex songs.
