BreakOut West 2023: Showcasing Yukon Artists

Music Yukon is thrilled to be heading back to BreakOut West, Western Canada’s premiere music industry conference, from October 11 to 15th in Kelowna, BC. We’re looking forward to catching up with industry professional from across the country, learning from some of the best in the biz, and catching some this country’s best talent. Five incredible Yukon acts will be strutting their stuff by showcasing and networking at the event, and we’re can’t wait to support them!

BRIA ROSE N’ THORNS
Bria Rose evokes power and playfulness through her stories and sound. Her colourful spirit digs deep to share her northern perspective through lyrics, glow, and delivery. Hailing from Dease Lake BC this Tahltan/Cree artist now calls Whitehorse home. With the Thorns at her side, this bouquet brings a rock’n’roll edge with heart and grit. Together, Bria Rose N’ Thorns use high energy and their combined talents to create a lively and rooted performance. BRNT is the folk-rock, sweet and salty ensemble that you didn’t know you needed. Their debut EP is on the way this fall. Bria Rose’s first single “Seasons” released in October 2022. Featuring Bria Rose, Francois Jacques, Kris Moore, Adam Cripps, Josh MacNeil.

BRIGITTE JARDIN

Brigitte Jardin is a captivating artist who weaves a mesmerizing tapestry of sounds within the queer-country genre. Hailing from the beautiful Yukon Territory, Jardin enchants listeners with her bilingual compositions, drawing inspiration from the poetic beauty found in the tapestry of everyday life.

Embracing the timeless essence of classic country music, Brigitte Jardin stands as a multi-instrumentalist, leaving an indelible mark on the French Canadian music scene. Her diverse palette of carefully crafted lyrics invites listeners to immerse themselves in a rhythmic journey reminiscent of a Honky Tonk dance party.

THE FOLLOWER

The Follower is an innovative electronic-music duo showcasing a distinct blend of vocal pop and drum and bass influences. With an ear for the unconventional, they challenge listeners with haunting vocals, edgy, rave-informed production, and compositions that take listeners through surprising turns and unexpected resolutions.

Victoria Parker and Colin Dorward are veterans in their respective scenes, each having performed and/or recorded and published for over two decades. Victoria Parker has predominantly occupied a singer/songwriter niche, performing across Canada, while Colin has published IDM and experimental electronic-music with European record labels such as End Titles (Zurich), Concrete Collage (Lyon), and Evel (Barcelona).

THE LUCKY ONES

The Lucky Ones are a band from the Yukon Territory. Their unique brand of authentic country-roots music imparts traditional arrangements with a contemporary disposition, reminiscent of old-time dances in hotel taverns and barrooms, barns, kitchens and saloons.

Since releasing their self-titled debut album, The Lucky Ones have quickly come to be regarded as one of Canada’s finest roots music ensembles. The group’s sound is built on a foundation of traditional bluegrass and honky tonk music but expressed through the distinctive song writing of its core members.

VANSTONES
Vanstones are a Yukon-based folk pop trio formed by multi-instrumentalist songwriters Amanda Fata, Sarah Murphy and Nathan Schultz. Brought together by a shared passion for lush vocal harmonies and inspired by multi-lead vocalist bands like Fleetwood Mac, Vanstones have honed a sound that centralizes vocal arrangements.  Instrumentally, they seamlessly weave acoustic instrumentation with world music inspired rhythms and melodic guitar work.
