Yukon Artists at Iceland Airwaves

Not one…not two…but three Yukon artists will be showcasing in Reykjavik at Iceland Airwaves from November 7 to 9, 2024. Music Yukon is thrilled to partner with Iceland Airwaves and the Embassy of Canada to support Jasmine Netsena, Bria Rose N’ Thorns, and Jeremy Parkin on this exciting opportunity. Bria Rose N’ Thorns On the wings of the north wind, Bria Rose N’ Thorns (BRNT) shake the room with soulful energy. Each song tells a story, written from the eyes of a young Tahltan/Cree woman finding her hope and way in the world around her. Their folk rock sound is complete with rasp and a deep alto flavour that bridges heart and grit. BRNT is the sweet and salty ensemble that boasts positivity, playfulness, and power through a rural lens. Their debut EP, Sprout, released May 31st 2024.
Jasmine NetsenaMusic is Jasmine Netsena’s first language. From the age of five, the award-winning singer-songwriter, who is of the Dene and Tahltan Nations, learned to sing from her grandmothers in their Indigenous languages. Classical voice training only strengthened that bedrock, and now, Jasmine has been honing her songwriting and guitar skills for close to 15 years.
Jasmine released her debut album, Take You With Me, in 2014. For her second record, she uses her voice to uncover long-buried issues. The daughter of a residential school survivor, Jasmine wants to use music to add to the dialogue of intergenerational healing.
Jasmine has charmed audiences in New York City, Nashville and across Canada. In 2018, Jasmine won the Socan Indigenous Songwriter of the Year Award. In 2014, the Whitehorse, Yukon resident won Best Folk/Acoustic Album in the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards and was nominated for at Indigenous Songwriter of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. She’s been featured on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network show Rising Stars, and in 2012, she performed at the Grand Ole Northern Opry with Grammy Award winner Laurie Lewis.
Jeremy ParkinJeremy Parkin is an indigenous artist and producer from the Kwanlin Dün First Nation in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. Blending influences from artists such as Shlohmo, Burial, Flume, and SBTRKT; Jeremy creates detailed and textured soundscapes to vivid pictures throughout his music.
Last year, Jeremy saw himself working with the Vancouver based indigenous music label, Land Back Records. Jeremy took on the role as head producer for the label, producing for artists such as Dakota Bear and Pîsim SB. In addition to his work with Land Back Records, Jeremy has produced for the likes of Bali based pop duo Alien Child, Canadian comedian/Youtuber Kurtis Conner, and handles production for his own hip hop duo known as LOCAL BOY.
