Join us for our first Blues Fusion event at the Social House and be part of this fast growing awesome dance community in the Yukon. We hope for this to become a regular and recurring event.
Join us at 8 pm to explore movement with a short lesson! Rather than learning the specific “steps” and learning to do them “correctly”, blues fusion is more about partner connection, building body awareness, partner weight balancing and improvisation.
It is called fusion because many other styles are welcome and can be blended in (e.g. swing, latin, contemporary, ballroom, solo etc). Traditional ‘lead’ and ‘follow’ roles are questioned in this dance, and not assumed. There can be a sense of fluidity (e.g. any gender can lead/follow or ‘switch’ lead/follow roles back and forth within the dance). It’s about exploring safe partner movement and having fun!
No dance experience or partner necessary. Come as you are, with an open mind! Fun times are guaranteed. We will meet each other and focus on a couple aspects of the dance to work on that evening and have a mini-lesson before breaking out into open dance for the night.
We’ll play lots of eclectic music throughout the night from traditional blues to electronic to oldies to modern downtempo, contemporary, latin inspired, hip hop and much more!
We are fundraising to bring up some instructors from Vancouver for a fall dance workshop, so we will be accepting donations at the door.
Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering at the door or DJing throughout the night as we’ll need some extra hands (includes free entry!)
