Music Yukon is seeking a candidate to take over the position of Producer & Programmer for the 2021 Arts in the Park season. ABOUT ARTS IN THE PARK

Arts in the Park, now in it’s 25th season, is an outdoor summer festival celebrating visual and performing arts in downtown Whitehorse, Yukon. From May to August, Arts in the Park presents free live music every lunch hour from Monday to Friday, accompanied by live demos and activities by visual artists. The festival also presents youth-oriented concerts each Wednesday evening. Restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic led to a redesign of the festival into a live-to-radio format, in partnership with local community radio station CJUC. Under COVID, the visual artist aspect of the festival is curated in partnership with Yukon Artists at Work/Artists in the Window.

POSITION DUTIES

The role of the Producer & Programmer for Arts in the Park is to oversee all aspects of the Arts in the Park festival, including but not limited to:

  • Secure private donations and corporate sponsorships for the 2021 season;

  • Follow and update the project budget for the festival based on confirmed funding;

  • Draft and issue contracts for each performing artist;

  • Work with artists to ensure tech riders are received and other show requirements are met;

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the festival;

  • Hire and supervise an Assistant Producer;

  • Work with Assistant Producer to coordinate festival marketing and social media;

  • Meet with and provide project reports and updates to the Executive Director;

  • Complete end-of-year reports to funders as required.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Experience in live music / theatre production;

  • Significant work experience effectively establishing and maintaining budgets;

  • Analysis of financial statements and budget tracking and reporting;

  • Significant experience in fundraising and revenue generation, including the development of grant applications, administration and stewardship of funds, and report preparation;

  • Significant experience in project management or event management;

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and WordPress

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;

  • Ability to manage a large workload;

  • Proven success in problem-solving and conflict resolution;

  • Experience with basic marketing and social media competency;

  • Familiarity with the Yukon music and visual arts communities;

  • Knowledge of Yukon communities.

CONDITIONS

Candidate will be taking over the production of the 25th Arts in the Park season, and will be expected to work irregular hours as required. Much of the planning is already in place, with funding secured.

CONTRACT TERM & COMPENSATION

The deadline for applications for this position is April 16th, and the expected term of this contract is April 21st, 2021 – October 29th, 2021, with the potential of extending the position permanently. The contractee will receive a fee of $12,250.00 + GST (if applicable), based on an anticipated average schedule of 17.5 hours per week at $25.00 per hour.
