Canadian Songwriting Competition opens October 1

Music Yukon members and other Canadian songwriters are invited to enter the second annual Canadian Songwriting Competition. The competition will launch on October 1, 2017, with discounted early bird pricing (early bird pricing ends October 31). This year’s competition will be bigger and better, with a new cash prize of $10,000, and over $40,000 in prizes to be won! Judges include Joel Plaskett, Sam Roberts, Alan Doyle, Cadence Weapon, and industry tastemakers in A&R, radio, festival programming, publishing and more. CSC is also thrilled to partner with SickKids Foundation to help raise funds for in-hospital music programming. Call for Applications: Jenni House Artist Residency

DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 22, 2017 Apply here: Professional and emerging artists from the Yukon, northern neighbours (Alaska, northern BC, Northwest Territories and Nunavut) and circumpolar countries are encouraged to apply. Jenni House is an ideal space for artistic collaboration and joint residency applications are accepted. Selected artists practicing in the fields of visual art, film and media, music, literary arts, spoken word and multi-disciplinary/multi-media will be awarded a one month residency, and an honouria of $500. Call for Proposals: Community School Touring Program

On behalf of the Department of Education, the Community School Touring Program is pleased to announce that we are accepting proposals for the 2017-18 school year. All performers interested in touring Yukon community schools should either drop off their proposal at the Arts Underground/Yukon Art Society (located in the lower level of the Hougen Centre on Main Street) by Friday, Sept 29, 2017 or submit it to this address. United Way Breakfast seeks volunteer musicians

The United Way Breakfast and Auction is approaching! Come hungry on September 29th, 2017 from 6:30am – 9:30am (that’s right, set that coffee-maker timer for EARLY) at the Coast High Country Convention Centre in Whitehorse. Last year’s breakfast has allowed the United Way to support Yukon based non-profits and organizations with over $100,000 in funding. As part of the drive for auction bidding, donations and overall syrup consumption during the event, we are hoping to have a few performers play for 30 min sets.
